Ragip Mehmet Damar

Ragip M. Damar passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2019 surrounded by his family in Allen, Texas at the age of 97. He was born on November 1, 1921 to Husnu and Mukerrem Damar in Gelibolu, Turkey where his parents were farmers in a village near the sea. Ragip was orphaned at a young age and lived much of his teen years with his aunts. He was a hard working and studious child that loved school. He attended a Turkish military high school where he had to pass a strenuous entrance exam, he considered that one of the happiest days of his life.

Ragip finished his college education with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Robert College in Istanbul. He was in the Turkish military for 20 years and came to the United States to obtain his masters degree at Cornell University in New York. Ragip married his sweetheart Suzan in 1948 and was blessed with two children, Okan and Belgin. In 1963, the whole family immigrated to the United States as he started his work with TVA power systems and joined Bechtel Corporation in 1965. Ragip retired from Bechtel after 20 years and lived in North Behesda, Maryland. His beloved wife Suzan passed away in 2000. Ragip was blessed to find a wonderful wife and companion, Hacer (Dogan) Damar, and they were married in 2002. Ragip, Hacer and her daughter, Leyla lived a happy life in Allen, Texas, where he made many wonderful friends. Ragip was blessed in having so many friends and a family that loved him.

He was survived by his wife, Hacer Damar of Allen, Texas; son, Okan Damar and wife, Cristine; daughter, Belgin Lore and husband, Victor of Torrance, California; grandchildren, Aydin, Evan, Dantel, Arin, and Derrick; step-daughter, Leyla Maahs and husband, Michael of Allen, Texas; step-son, Henry Maahs; step-grandson, Beau Henderson; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Ragip was preceeded in death by his parents, Husnu and Mukerrem Damar; brother, Aris Damar; and his first wife, Suzan Damar.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
