IN LOVING MEMORY

Qi Li

Jan 25 1961 - Feb 14 2024

Qi Li passed away on February 14, 2024, at the age of 63, after celebrating a final Valentine’s Day with his loving family by his side.

Qi was born on January 25, 1961, in Shantou, China, to Zhuo Chen Li and Sai Hua Zhao. While he came from a working-class family, Qi’s natural intelligence and diligence propelled him to Sun Yat-Sen University, one of the nation’s top colleges, where he became the first in his family to graduate from college, with a degree in Computer Science. He then spent a number of years working in the customs office, where he met and married his lifelong wife, Jihong Lin. In his later days, he would describe this marriage as “one of the best decisions of his entire life”.

Ever the ambitious one, Qi moved to Texas in 1990 in order to pursue a brighter future for his family. Arriving with nothing but a suitcase, Qi worked various part-time jobs while pursuing his master’s degree in computer science from Texas A&M University. In 1993, his son, Andrew Li, was born. Qi was determined to provide a loving childhood and financial freedom for Andrew. Upon graduating, he spent the next 30+ years working as a software engineer and rose to become one of the most senior system engineers at Oracle. His son would grow up with all the love, education, toys and experiences he could wish for. Qi eventually paid his son’s way through college at Harvard University and never passed up an opportunity to brag about how proud he was of his son, much to Andrew’s embarrassment.

Outside of work, Qi loved spending time with his friends and family. In his free time, he could be found at the local recreation center playing ping pong with friends, gardening in his yard with his loving wife, watching 90s / 00s sitcoms with a glass of wine, reading up on current events in his study, traveling the world with his family or exploring local restaurants in search of the best seafood dishes.

Qi will be deeply missed and survived by his spouse, Jihong Lin, of Allen, Texas, and son, Andrew Li, who resides in New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zhuo Chen Li and Sai Hua Zhao.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home - 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at  https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/qi-li. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
