IN LOVING MEMORY

Prinda Harlan Sluetz

Nov 08 1926 - Sep 30 2023

Prinda Harlan Sluetz of Fairview, Texas, left to join her Lord on September 30, 2023, at the age of almost 97. She was born on November 8, 1926, to Ensley Harrison and Edith Hakes Harlan in Peoria, Illinois.

A 1944 graduate of Dunlap High School, Dunlap, Illinois, Prinda went on to attend the University of Illinois. She then worked at Caterpillar Tractor as a receptionist to the President of the company in Peoria, Illinois where she met her husband Edward J. Sluetz, with whom she married on July 30, 1949. Prinda was preceded in death by her husband Edward who also passed away at the age of almost 97 on April 2, 2016. They had been married for 66 years.

Prinda’s passions were her beloved Sunday School Class, golf, playing bridge, enjoying her multitude of friends and neighbors, and interacting with her extended family. She was a people person extraordinaire and loved all the social interactions life had to offer her. Throughout her life she was an excellent athlete. As an example, at the age of 89, she recorded her third Hole-In-One on the 16th Hole at Heritage Ranch Country Club in Fairview, Texas. While golf remained her primary sport until late in her life after having won multiple club championships, she was also a very accomplished tennis player when she was younger. Prinda and her family had the good fortune to have lived overseas in Brazil and Mexico for ten years where she raised her young family and experienced many different cultures and customs, and always remained an active member of a church.

Prinda is a member of the Creekwood United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas where she faithfully attended Sunday School whenever possible. She was also a very loyal supporter of Women’s Breast Cancer awareness and fundraising efforts, participating in many style-shows into her late nineties.

Prinda is survived by her son, James Edward Sluetz and wife, Tracy of Galveston, TX; son, Craig Harlan Sluetz of Plano, TX; daughter, Deborah Ann Blackmon and husband, Richard of Knoxville, TN; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Hospital, to the memorial fund “In Memory of Prinda Sluetz”, at www.stjude.org, or to the Mission Fund at Creekwood United Methodist Church, “In Memory of Prinda Sluetz”, and mailed to Creekwood UMC, 261 Country Club Road, Allen, TX 75002.
