IN LOVING MEMORY

Phyllis Annelle Hamby

Nov 03 1937 - Apr 11 2022

Phyllis Annelle Hamby was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She left this world surrounded by family in her home on April 11, 2022 at age 84.

Phyllis was born to Kathryn and Carlos Gentle on November 3, 1937 in McKinney, Texas.  She grew up on a farm with her brother, sister, and parents and was no stranger to hard work.  She attended school in Prosper, Texas participating in multiple activities including being a Majorette on the Drill Team. After graduating from Prosper High School in 1955, she attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art and went on to get a teaching certificate and master’s degree in Reading.

Phyllis married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Harold Hamby, on May 29, 1959 at the Prosper Presbyterian Church where they remained active members until their passing.  Together they had three children: Craig, Valerie, and Tonja. Phyllis and Harold were well known in their community and embraced everyone with love.  Phyllis spent her entire career teaching Math and Art to middle school students at Prosper High School until retirement in 1999.  In her spare time, she loved attending and watching all different sports with Harold.  You could find them at the local Prosper football game every Friday night, watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sundays, and traveling all over Texas to football and basketball playoff games.  Phyllis also loved painting, sculpting, sewing, cooking, reading, gardening and all things creative.  She had an eye for design and was an accomplished seamstress with a thirst for knowledge as a lifelong learner.  Her favorite thing in this world was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Until the very end she hosted lunch for her family every Sunday after church and welcomed anyone who could attend.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jerry Gentle; her children, Craig and Alicia Hamby, Valerie and David Hyden, and Tonja Hendrix; grandchildren, Chelsea and Jay Fribourg, Matt Dunn, Chad and Hannah Hamby, Amanda and Matt Cable, Cody and Leah Phillips, Camey and Cameron Dill, Zach Hendrix, Casey and Greg Gyorgydeak, Sam Hyden, Tim Hyden, and Rachel Hyden; great-grandchildren, Gavin Moore, Elijah Moore, Natalie Deskin, Miles Cable, Austin Rollyson, Caden Dunn, Logan Cable, Etta Fribourg, Rowan Melchin, Charlie Dill, Olen Fribourg, and Blakely Dill.
