Phyllis Marie (Penland) Martin, age 82, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021, in Frisco, Texas. She was born in Thomas, Oklahoma, on October 2, 1939, to Izella Pearl (Murray) and James Wilson Penland. She grew up in Thomas and Westville, Oklahoma, her family finally settling in Tulsa, where she graduated from Will Rogers High School. Upon graduation from business school, Phyllis worked in the financial services industry ultimately retiring as a title analyst in the mortgage business.
After meeting at First Baptist Church Tulsa, she married Jess Lavaughn Martin on February 5, 1965, and they had three children. While she worked out of the home; her heart and effort was fully devoted to her family. She was completely invested in her husband and children. The fruits of her life are embodied in the lives of her children, their spouses and her eight grandchildren. Phyllis was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Valerie Wohlschlegel and her husband, Justin, Melissa Starnes and her husband, Robert, and Scott Martin and his wife, Angela; her grandchildren, Zak Wohlschlegel, Grace Wohlschlegel, Joshua Starnes, Jacob Starnes, Luke Martin, Blake Martin, Gentry Martin, and Colton Martin; her brother, Charles Penland and his wife, Phyllis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lavaughn Martin, her parents, James and Izella Penland, her brother, James Penland, and her sister-in-law, Arizona Penland.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
