Phoebe Proctor Mallory, 85, of Tyler, Texas (who resided at 3300 So. Stonebridge Drive, Apt. 317 in McKinney, Texas since 2019), passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025.

She was born on October 31, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama. Phoebe was the beloved daughter of Robert Finis Proctor and Phoebe (Inzer) Proctor.

Phoebe was a graduate of Lubbock High School and went on to receive her Associate’s degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She continued her studies at the University Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Arts. Pheobe remained a loyal Crimson Tide football fan throughout her life who diligently watched the games each year.

After leaving the University of Alabama, she taught High School English in Atlanta Georgia before starting a family. Later she accomplished both a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She then began a distinguished academic career as a Professor of Speech Communications at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Bellevue College in Bellevue, Nebraska, and Southwestern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, before retiring in 1996.

Phoebe married the love of her life, the late Paul Mallory, on January 29, 1983 in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they shared many joyful years, creating a lifetime of cherished memories until Paul’s passing.

As a devoted member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas, Phoebe found deep fulfillment in her faith and fellowship. She enjoyed her Bible study groups where she was known for her warmth, generosity, and zest for life. In addition to being an active church member, she loved cooking and shopping. She was especially fond of jewelry and acquired a beautiful collection of turquoise American West jewelry.

Phoebe, who was lovingly known as “Pookie” to family and close friends, will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, proud aunt, and loyal friend. Her kind heart, vibrant spirit, and unwavering faith touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her son, Gary Hollis of Gulf Shores, Alabama; son, Robert Hollis and wife, Kristen; seven grandchildren, Colby Hollis of Spanaway, Washington, Charlie Hollis of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Ethan Hollis of Frisco, Texas, Henley Hollis of Gulf Shores; Portia Hollis, also of Gulf Shores; Emily Hollis of Frisco, and Caroline Hollis, also of Frisco; three nieces, Allison Bishop of Lewisville, Texas, Ellen Ince of Conroe, Texas, and Caroline Gross and husband, David of Flower Mound, Texas; nephew, Graham Bishop of Lubbock, Texas and numerous other loving family and friends.

Phoebe was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mallory; parents, Robert and Phoebe Proctor; and sister, Melinda Craddock.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Phoebe will be interred with her husband, Paul during a private committal service at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
