IN LOVING MEMORY

Phillip Kevin "Phil" Kinchen

Apr 26 1956 - Feb 27 2022

Phillip Kevin Kinchen, Sr., age 65, of Mannford, Oklahoma, was born on April 26, 1956, in Los Angeles, California.  Phil (as he was known to his friends and family) passed away peacefully at home, the evening of February 27, 2022, in The Colony, Texas.

Phil, the fourth of five children, was born to Lloyd Duane and Barbara Ann (Roberts) Kinchen and grew up in southern California.  He played drums in the marching and stage band for Corona High School where he attended until he enlisted with the Marine Corps. at the age of 17.  Phil served as a mortarman for 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division and was stationed in the Philippines for a time during his service between 1973-1977.  Ask anyone who knew Phil and they’d tell you his work ethic was second to none.  He took pride in the work he did no matter how small or large the job.  He spent the next 17 years as an independent contractor doing floor covering installation throughout southern California and Nevada.  On his time off when he wasn’t working in the yard or on a home project, he was taking his kids fishing at Hemet Lake, to spend the day at Huntington Beach or to camp up at Big Bear.

In 1991, Phil retired his knee pads and traded them for his CDL, going on the road to drive truck long-haul.  A lifetime of smoking combined with extensive injuries sustained in a 2008 hit and run, resulted in a diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD).  Phil managed this progressive condition for over 14 years, working until he was forced to retire.

Phil was incredibly independent.  Wasn’t one that easily accepted help but was always one of the first to be of service to someone in need.  Phil knew and loved the Lord.  As his final hospital stay was nearing its close, his only concern was whether the doctor treating him knew the Lord, going so far as telling him, “Nothing matters more in this life, than knowing Christ.” Forever opening his home to stray animals he and his kids would bring home, he was an old soul, serious in nature but had an equally goofy side where his silly sense of humor would show itself.  Phil seemed happiest and most relaxed in nature.  He played the guitar, a harmonica, his fiddle and was picking most recently on a Ukulele.  He loved to fish, camp, shoot guns, work on his property, and work with his hands.  He loved to cook for his family and friends and though he made a lot that was tasty, his fried chicken is what he’s known best for. His family is grateful he is at rest and home but will fiercely miss his presence in this life.

Phil is survived by his children, Anna M. Michalski and son-in-law, Tony, of The Colony, Texas, Magdalena Huntsman also of The Colony, and Seth A. Kinchen and daughter-in-law, Milica of Temecula, California; step-children, Brandon Simmons and wife, Misty of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Dwayne Myers of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Kyle Myers and wife, Jennifer of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Brittney Wallace and son-in-law, Dre of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Anthony D.
