Beloved husband, father, and papaw, Phillip Bruce Gibbs, 71, went home to his Father Tuesday, May 22, 2018 after a twenty-month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born October 26, 1946, in Vernon, Texas, Bruce is survived by his wife, Diann Summers Gibbs; two sons, Jeff (Amy Ramsower) Gibbs of Allen, Texas and Justin (Amye Moshier) Gibbs of Conroe, Texas; four grandsons, Taylor, Brady, Andrew, and William; and three brothers, Randle (Martha) of Weatherford, Texas, Freddie (Diane) of Lubbock, Texas, and Jon (Lindsay) of Biggleswade, United Kingdom. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Cassie Beck Gibbs of Vernon, Texas.
Early in his life, Bruce developed a passion for music that began with his church involvement. Later, he played in the Quanah High School Stage Band. There he honed his musical skills that provided him with wonderful memories for years to come. Bruce graduated from Quanah High School in 1966.
Bruce attended Abilene Christian University, where he met the love of his life, Diann Summers, in a speech class. After leaving ACU, Bruce worked for Quanah, Acme, and Pacific Railroad. Bruce was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 where he served his country in Vietnam. Bruce and Diann married in Honolulu, Hawaii, on his R&R in January 1970 during his two-year military service. After returning home from Vietnam in 1970, Bruce continued his education and graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1973 with a degree in Business Management.
For the next forty years, Bruce worked in the electrical and telecom industry. From WW Grainger to GE Electrical to Telecom Electric, Bruce perfected his skills and knowledge in the electrical supply business. Retiring in 2013, Bruce turned his passion to gardening and landscaping. He loved the outside where he enjoyed God's beautiful creation.
However, the greatest love of Bruce's life was his family and his four grandsons. Spending countless hours on sports fields watching his sons and his grandsons playing sports and wrestling on the floor with his boys and grandsons gave Bruce untold pleasures.
