IN LOVING MEMORY

Philip Owen Mehl

Oct 06 1947 - Sep 09 2022

Philip Owen Mehl of Melissa, Texas passed away on September 9, 2022 at the age of 74. He was born on October 6, 1947 to Fredric Philip and Mary Maureen (Monaghan) Mehl in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Philip married Janette Diana Chenault on May 19, 1973 in Hurst, Texas. Phil grew up on a farm in Gravette, Ark., where he was a member of the 4F. He fondly remembered chasing cows at 4 am in the snow. At the age of 12, his family moved to San Antonio where he graduated from McArthur High School in 1965. Phil then served in the US Navy where he learned to work with computers and was also the liaison between CINCPAC and Vietnam.

Phil graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas with a degree in Computer Science where he met his wife, Janette. They were married May 19, 1973 in Hurst, Texas and have lived in Dallas County until moving to Melissa, Texas two years ago.

Phil’s family was his world. He enjoyed being with his children and would do anything for them, big or small. Phil was always present at their sports events, he was a Cub Scout leader and spent many happy times camping, hiking, working on cars and building projects or just hanging out. Phil made it a point to have one on one time as well.

Phil has always been active in his church since he was a young boy. He regularly attended First United Methodist Church in Duncanville and served on several committees. He always was ready to lend a helping hand and participated in the church’s Property Improvement Program and any building project that came up. Phil was honored by the United Methodist Women for his volunteerism. Phil enjoyed camping and fishing and was interested in history and home improvement.

Phil and Janette recently celebrated 49 years of marriage and we’re looking forward to their 50th. He is survived by his wife, Janette Mehl of Melissa, Texas; children, David Mehl of Dallas, Texas, Rebecca Mehl of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Matthew Mehl and wife, Michele of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Quintanilla of Irving, Texas, Heather Mehl of Cedar Hill, Texas, Alexis Wiand of Cedar Hill, Texas, Megan Wiand of Cedar Hill, Texas, Mitchell Mehl of McKinney, Texas, Marshall Mehl of McKinney, Texas, and Maxwell Mehl of McKinney, Texas; great granddaughter, Leilani Quintanilla of Irving, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends. He was a devoted and loving husband who never missed an opportunity to say I love you. He will be very missed.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 403 South Main Street, Duncanville, Texas 75116.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church Duncanville/Property Improvement Program.
