Philip Joseph Folan Jr., 91, peacefully passed Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in Plano, Texas. Born December 14, 1932, in Norwood, MA he was a proud first generation American born from Irish immigrants, Theresa Delia (Murray) Folan and Philip Joseph Folan Sr.
While proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps at Quantico, VA, he met then wed his love, Margaret Oleinik on November 3, 1956. He had an impressive career as a D.C. firefighter, starting on the rescue squad and ending his role on the Foam and Dry Chemical Squad with primary service to the White House. After his firefighter retirement he pursued another career in service as Director of Security for The Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in Georgetown. Pop was a resolute provider; he enjoyed sharing stories, woodturning, fishing, coastal life and traveling with his wife of 67 years. He was an honored member of The Delaware Diamond State Detachment Marine Corps League of Rehoboth Beach, DL. Pop always gave his best and has left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Phil was a wonderful, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Pop’s legacy is carried on in survival by his devoted wife Margaret Folan; his three children, Mary “Cathy” Catherine Smith, Jane Theresa Yeatman, and Philip Joseph Folan III; his six grandchildren Nicholas Joseph Smith, Emily Jane Bassett, Clementine Augusta Folan, Zane Philip Folan, Skye Echo Folan, River Knight Folan; and his five great-grandchildren, Olivia Jane Bassett, Amelia Rose Folan, Luke Oliver Rudy Bassett, Leo Francis Richard Bassett, and Noah Knight Folan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Delia Murray Folan; his father, Philip Joseph Folan Sr.; and his sister Mary F. Connolly; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on May 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Washington, DC where Phil and Margaret were married 67 years ago. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Toys for Tots in Phil’s memory: Toys for Tots
