Philip Bruce Porter, Jr. of McKinney, Texas passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on July 18, 2018 at the age of 71.
He was born on February 16, 1947 to Philip Bruce and Jeraline (Massingale) Porter in Sherman, Texas. Philip grew up in Lindsay, Oklahoma and Kermit, Texas where he graduated as Valedictorian from Kermit High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1970 from Texas Tech University where he was member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Philip proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1970-1974. He was attached to the 3rd Division Marine Corps Air Wing at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California. He was a member of VMFA - 323 Squadron where he served as a Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) in the backseat of an F-4 Phantom Jet. After his tour of duty, he returned to Texas and began his career at Texas Instruments in Program Management for 27 years and at Raytheon for 8 years.
Philip loved tennis - both playing and watching; football - both playing and watching, especially if the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys were playing; fishing, and was an avid reader. He was a true gentleman, who loved his family with a passion. He was a hands-on Dad who showed up for every event, performance, and game of both his sons. He also loved his extended family and all his friends and enjoyed nothing more than having an opportunity to visit with everyone at family and school reunions, weddings, graduations, group dinners, and during the holidays. He could usually be found holding a baby and playing with the kids and dogs.
Philip is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki Porter of McKinney, Texas; sons, Chris Porter and wife, Heather of Fort Worth, Texas and Scott Porter of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Emma and Wyatt Porter; father, Philip Bruce Porter, Sr. of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Laurence (Larry) Lehman and wife, Lisa of Houston, Texas and Paul Porter and wife, Cathy of Arlington, Texas; sisters, Linda Lehman Barbour of Houston, Texas and Sylvia Gaines and husband, Kip of Sherman, Texas; aunt, Martha Phipps of Georgetown, Texas and a host of other loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeraline Lehman and step-mother, Francille Porter; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Fay Porter and his maternal grandparents, Jack and Lillian Massingale.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Interment with military honors will be held at DFW National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. following the service. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Words cannot express the family’s gratitude to the doctors, nurses, techs, and staff for the phenomenal care given to Philip during his three-month stay at Medical City - Dallas. We saw God in every healing hand that touched Philip during his hospitalization. May God bless every one of these caring and compassionate medical professionals.
