Patrick Marvin Martin, Sr. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2022 - the day of his 57th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Sharon.
Born on February 23, 1940 to Jack Ernest Martin and Beatrice Diaz Martin in San Antonio, TX, Patrick spent his early childhood years wherever his father, a B29 navigator in the US Air Force, happened to be stationed: Roswell, NM, back to San Antonio and finally, Fort Worth, TX where he graduated from Handley High School in 1958.
Patrick first met Sharon Burns, a younger sister of his best friend Charlie, in 1955 in Fort Worth. Although Patrick soon followed his older brother, Jack, into the US Army in 1960, he renewed his acquaintance with Sharon again after returning home from duty in Germany. Patrick and Sharon eventually married in 1965 in Fort Worth.
An articulate and erudite man with wide-ranging interests, he was a voracious reader and a lifelong connoisseur of classical music, literature, science, engineering and history. He enjoyed collecting coins and post cards, watching westerns and science programs and building various carpentry projects.
He served in the US Army Special Forces as a radio operator and was an avid student of military history from ancient to modern times. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1969 with a degree in English and recently retired from the City of Bedford after over 50 years of service in construction engineering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother, and one grandson and is survived by his wife of 57 years, two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2022 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
