Patricia Ann Cox, known to some as “Pat” or “Patty” or “Tricia” died on July 6, 2020. She was resting comfortably in T Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center as part of Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas after one week under their care having lived 9 years with cancer.
Pat was a feisty 81 year old and everyone who met her couldn’t believe she wasn’t much younger as she was so energetic and smart in ways that belied her age. Still carrying a torch for her is her husband of 61 years, Bill (William S. Cox). Bill is living in McKinney, Texas very near their son Matthew, his wife Lucinda and their 2 children, Maggie Grace and Eleanor Parker.
Patty grew up in Eastern, Pennsylvania in both Allentown and then Phillipsburg as Patricia Ann Columbo. She was an avid dancer who loved jitterbug! After graduating highschool, she tried college but really wanted to work. She was an Executive Assistant at Bethlehem Steel before moving on to being the Director of Children’s Activities and a Hostess at Camelback Inn Resort in Arizona. She met her husband Bill during this time and her life’s adventure moved her to Pittsburgh, PA and eventually Ohio.
Pat and Bill raised their family in Boardman, Ohio from the 60’s until Bill retired from the Youngstown Country Club as Golf Professional in 2001. Pat was an active member of the Junior League of Youngstown and led the helm of a public speaker series with the volunteer organization, featuring prominent celebrities from around the country. Having a taste of doing something outside the chaos of a house with four very active children, Pat started her own retail business called the Mole Hole which specialized in table top décor and eventually china and glassware and wedding registries.
When Bill retired, they sold the Mole Hole and the family home and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where they enjoyed 10 years of beautiful weather, a few hurricanes, lots of golf, dancing, laughter and wonderful, wonderful friendships.
Pat and Bill then spent almost 10 years in Chandler, Arizona to live close to son, Bill (William M. Cox) and his family, daughter McKenna and son Billy. They loved their home there and the special time they were able to spend getting to know grandchildren, walking their dog Baxter, playing a little golf and relaxing in the pool. Pat was always a voracious reader and soon discovered a love of Words with Friends as well as a hidden talent in coloring! Lots of visits to Arizona were made by their other 2 children, daughters, Jennifer and Susan and Susan’s husband, Tyler.
Bill and the Cox children will celebrate Pat’s life privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Patricia Cox name either to Faith Hospice at https://www.faithpreshospice.org/donate/ or Hospice of the Valley at https://hov.org/donate/donate-now/, organizations tremendously supportive to both Pat and Bill in Texas and in Arizona.
