IN LOVING MEMORY

Patricia Louise Gordon

May 13 1930 - Mar 22 2008

Patricia Louise Gordon was home in time for Easter morning services, passing peacefully to Heaven on Sunday, March 23, 2008. She was born May 14, 1930, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Robert O. McMaken and Hilda Louise McMaken. She married Kenneth Gordon on February 21, 1948. They had a son, Daniel, and daughter, Lisa Marie, who died as an infant. Their family was expanded by “adopting” a daughter, Margaret, and granddaughter, Bethany. Later, Margaret’s husband, Greg Oden, was brought into the fold, and they blessed the Gordons with three more grandchildren: Greg, Chelsey and Cassie. Bethany married Charles Russell, who was welcomed as a grandson, and they blessed the Gordons with four great-grandchildren: Ashley, Ryan, Arianna and Caden. The Gordons owned several different businesses. They introduced Dallas to truly good pizza in the 60s at the Pizza Palace. And in 1976, they established Hoky Marketing, a wholesale distribution company, which allowed them to tour the state together selling the Hoky floor sweeper. They were known at the State Fair of Texas and around Dallas as the Hoky people. Ken retired in 1988, but Pat loved to work and continued the business. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before he died of cancer in 2001. Afterward, Pat bought a house in the countryside of Leonard, next door to granddaughter Bethany, in January of this year. She loved watching her grandchildren walk the path up to her back porch for snacks and card games with Granny. She cherished the time she had with her family in Leonard. Her devoted son, Daniel, made the Leonard house a second home and spent many afternoons in the peaceful countryside with his mom. Meanwhile, Pat grew the Hoky business to include customers worldwide before she became too sick to work and passed the business down to granddaughter Bethany in January of this year. Pat battled cancer for over a year. She spent every minute of that year very carefully, sharing love and demonstrating an inner strength and peace that was rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ. Pat loved her many friends and her church family at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Trenton. Her sense of humor and ability to make everyone around her feel special made an impression on everyone she met. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 25, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard. She is survived by her son, Daniel Gordon of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Greg Oden of Leonard; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Arianna and Caden; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Phil Smith, brothers-in-law and their spouses, Charlie and Theresa Gordon and Harold and Bobbie Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, brother, Robert E. McMaken, sister, Betty Hopkins and sister-in-law, Nancy Webster. She would be honored by donations to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 130, Randolph, Texas, 75475 or the Nexus Recovery Center, 8733 LaPrada Drive, Dallas, TX, 75228.
