Patricia Ann Mayfield Wysong PhD

Patricia Ann Mayfield Wysong PhD of McKinney, Texas passed away on February 13, 2024 at the age of 77.  She was born in Stephenville, Texas on September 11, 1946 to Harold Wade Mayfield and Doris Imogene McClain Mayfield.  She graduated from McKinney High School in 1964.  She then attended Baylor University where she was a member of the student government, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Mortar Board.  She graduated from Baylor in 1968 with degrees in Speech Communication and Secondary Education.  She then attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a Masters degree in Speech Communication and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in Communications.

Patricia married Charles Bradford Wysong M.D. “Dr. Brad” on May 30, 1971 at 4:00 p.m.  She had two children, Philip Bradford Wysong who is married to CeCe Bains Wysong, and they have three children, Cody Austin Wysong, Caleb Charles Wysong, and Abigail Weatherly Wysong.  And her daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Wysong Haefliger who is married to Daniel Thomas Haefliger, Jr. and they have three children, Kennedy Brooke Haefliger, Charles Bradford Haefliger, and Briar Elizabeth Haefliger, and sister, Linda Russell and husband, David.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Doris Mayfield.

She taught freshman at the University of Texas while in graduate school.  Patricia then taught 2 years at San Antonio College while Brad was in medical school.  She then taught at College of the Mainland while she and Brad were living in Galveston, Texas.  Patricia and a colleague, Barbara Strain, published a textbook for College classes in speech. 

She was active in the First United Methodist Church in McKinney where she was adult church school coordinator, served as secretary of the Council of ministries, and taught adult Sunday school classes.  Patricia was active in the community serving on many boards, member of several clubs, she ran the family business, and was a professional book reviewer.  She will be missed by her family and many many friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
