IN LOVING MEMORY

Oveta Maxine Poston

Jul 20 1929 - Apr 24 2021

Oveta Maxine (Culp) Poston of Plano, Texas passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born July 20, 1929 to Bennie Modock Culp and Gladys Mae (Chambers) Culp in Gatesville, Texas. The family moved to the Texas Rio Grande Valley in the late 1930s, and Oveta attended high school there in Donna, Texas. She married Theodore Eugene Poston, Sr. on December 31, 1949 in Killeen, Texas. Oveta was a Protestant Christian. She was a descendant of pioneers who had established family roots in the Republic of Texas by the early 1840s. The land that her family once farmed in Coryell County Texas became part of Fort Hood during the World War 2 era. Oveta Culp Poston was named after Oveta Culp Hobby, a second cousin born in the same county, who directed the Women's Army Corps in the second world war and later became the first director of the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.   Oveta Poston's lifetime endeavors were to raise and nurture her family, tend to elders and siblings, and pass her family mission to the generations who survive her.

Oveta is survived by her daughter, Judy Gehlbach and husband, Gary of Plano, Texas; son, Theodore Eugene Poston, Jr. of Indian Springs, Nevada; 6 grandchildren, Michael Gehlbach of Avinger, Texas, Amanda Faulkner and husband, Sean of Denton, Texas, David Gehlbach and wife, Deanne of Austin, Texas, Dr. Daniel Gehlbach and wife, Emily of Dallas, Texas, Theodore “Tedd” Poston, III and wife, Lesley of Los Angeles, California and Elizabeth Poston of Las Vegas, Nevada; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane Herrington of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Eugene Poston, Sr. and her siblings, J.D. Culp, Lorraine Berryhill, Martha Freda Culp Chavez, Emma Hardin, Billy Culp, Jerry Culp and Ike Culp.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bright Focus Foundation.
