Orvis Ray Wilson
January 25, 1944 – May 27, 2018
Orvis was born a healthy baby in Blue Ridge, Texas, on January 25, 1944. His mother gave him the name after seeing it on a cigar box; it also reminded her of her uncle Orville (White). At 20 months, a sudden illness with high fever left him mentally-challenged and with affected speech, later earning him the nickname “Squeaky”. He attended the elementary school in Blue Ridge for several years before staying at home with his mother. For most of his life, he worked in the fields and hauled hay. A strong, expert stacker, he could pitch a bale of hay a mile high! When not working, he frequented the town square, greeting passers-by with a “hi-dee!” and “how you?”. Orvis was a long-time member of Pike Baptist Church and lived the last seven years of his life amongst friends and caring staff members at Bonham Nursing Center.
Orvis is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew (Pete) and Lottie Wilson. He is survived by his brother, Travis and wife, Chris Wilson of Rowlett, his sister, Patricia Padgett of Blue Ridge, along with nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6-8 pm on Tuesday evening, May 29th at Hurst Fielder Baker Funeral Home, Farmersville. The graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 30th at Blue Ridge cemetery. All are welcome.
