Orville Edward Sackett of Allen, Texas passed away on June 6, 2016 at the age of 91. He was born on June 3, 1925 to Barton Hill Sackett Sr. and Verna Marion (Darke) Sackett in Chicago, Illinois. Orville graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst, Illinois where he was a member of the band, the Debate Club, National Honor Society and he was the editor for the school paper. Orville was also an accomplished Boy Scout attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school he began attending Western Michigan College of Education in Kalamazoo MI. It is there he joined the USMC Reserves as Private 1st Class in July 1943. In April 1945 he attended the 10th Platoon Commanders School in Quantico, VA receiving the temporary rank of 2nd Lieutenant on July 18th, 1945. In May 1946 Orville was honorably discharged at the Marine Separation Center, USMCR, Great Lakes, IL. Orville returned to studying law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, MO. earning a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1948 and hired on as a bond underwriter for USF&G Insurance Companies. Orville passed the Missouri Bar exam in April 1951 and two months later his Law degree was substituted for a Juris Doctorate. The following month Orville reported to Camp Pendleton, CA. reporting as 1st Lieutenant USMCR where he met his wife, Evelyn P. Filion, who was a Second Lieutenant reporting to the base commander. They married on March 1, 1952 in Yuma, Arizona. Orville received another honorable discharge as 1st Lieutenant on June 20, 1952 and returned to work at USF&G Insurance Company in Kansas City, MO. Evelyn joined him in Kansas City also receiving an honorable discharge that summer. Orville would advance his career while transferring to office branches in St. Louis, Missouri, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and finally Dallas, Texas as Branch Manager. Orville retired January 1, 1988 after 40 years with USF&G. He and Evelyn were very involved in church. Orville was a choir boy in his hometown of Elmhurst, IL. and later served as Elder at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Florissant, MO. Orville also attended and volunteered at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church in Richardson, TX. Orville was also active in government serving two terms as city Councilman in Florissant, MO.
Orville is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn Sackett; children, David Sackett and wife Rosemary, Janice Sackett Montoya, and Mark Sackett and wife Gayle; grandchildren, Clayton Sackett and Grant Sackett; nephew, James Sackett and wife Kimberly; great nephew Barton Sackett II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barton Sackett Jr. and wife Wilma Marjorie; and sister, Gail Safford-Ashley.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2016 at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. Members of the family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening, June 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
