Oreta Jackson Smart Milner passed away at the age of 95 in McKinney, Texas on February 20, 2021. She was born on March 27, 1925 to John Harvey Jackson and Minnie Lee Gotcher in Farmersville, Texas.
She is survived by her two daughters; Sherryl McDonald and husband Greg of Farmersville, Texas and Marilyn Van Pelt and husband Howard of McKinney, Texas. Her seven grandchildren: Dacia Poulides-Page and husband John of Farmersville, Texas, Derek Spanburg and wife Nickole of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Tony Driggs and wife Daniel of Josephine, Texas, Robert McDonald and wife Kari of Van Alstyne, Texas, James and Kaylyn Pierce of Farmersville, Texas, Hunter Van Pelt of McKinney, Texas, Ashleigh Van Pelt of Beverly Hills, California, and Natalie Langley and husband Jay of Spring, Texas. Oreta is also survived by her 12 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Oreta is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, first husband, Foye L. Smart and second husband James Milner, son, Lynn Smart and daughter, Sheila Nelson.
Oreta had several different careers, Warner Brothers in Dallas, Texas Instruments in Richardson, the first Dairy Queen in Farmersville, the infamous Pryor’s Grill and finally retired from Collin County Clerk’s office. Her favorite pastimes were garage sales, thrift store shopping and curbside finds. The family would love for you to come and celebrate a her life with them.
A Visitation will be held at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 5-7PM. The Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Farmersville on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:00PM Burial to follow the service at I.O.O.F.
