Opal Genevieve Martin

Opal Genevieve Brown Martin, age 91, was born on October 31, 1913, and passed away on February 8, 2005. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. During her first marriage, she lived in Ft. Worth and Houston where she was affiliated with The Hartford and Houston Teachers Credit Union. She was an active member of Westminster United Methodist Church for many years. After her second marriage, she moved to Taylor Lake Village, Texas. Opal’s tremendous grace, dignity and generosity of spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Opal is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Ray Thompson of Fairview, Texas; granddaughters and their husbands, Ashley and Christopher Ewing of Memphis, Tennessee and Drs. Tonya Thompson and Michael Berry of N. Little Rock, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Lawson and Preston Ewing, Brenna and Jillian Berry; sisters, Ruby Viereck, Helen Clements, Manie Matthews, Vernie Bowie and husband, Phillip; brother, Albert Baxter Brown and wife, Alice; and daughters of her second husband, Lee Ann Malone and husband, George, and Meredith Richards and husband, Larry. Her parents, Albert Baxter and Manie Pearl Brown; first husband, Herbert Allen Martin, and her second husband, Leslie A. Martin preceded her in death. A graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery in Houston, Texas. The famiIy will receive friends for visitation prior to the service in the Mausoleum Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers the family request all remembrances be made to a charity of your choice.
