IN LOVING MEMORY

Christiana Oluremi Omotoso

Oct 30 1938 - Aug 26 2022

Mummy Christiana Oluremi Omotoso was born on October 30, 1938, in Lagos. She had her very early childhood at Badley Avenue (now the famous Herbert Macaulay Street). Mummy had her primary education at St. John's School, Abeokuta and went on to Standard School at Igbein, also in Abeokuta. She then moved to Lagos with her uncle and had her Standards three through five at Olowogbowo Methodist School on Lagos Island. She moved back to Abeokuta where she had her secondary education at the Anglican Girls Modern School from 1951 to1952. She did her preliminary nursing school at the Nursing School, Mokola, Ibadan before proceeding to Ijebu Ode General Hospital for her three-year internship. She sat for her Nigerian Registered Nursing Examination (NRN) at Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State which she passed. She worked assiduously at the Ijebu Ode General Hospital for some time before travelling out to the United Kingdom in 1962. She was joined in the UK by her late husband, Daddy Phillip Ayoade Omotoso in 1963. She went in for more nursing education at Connaught Hospital, London and then to Essex for her Part 1 midwifery program. Mummy Omotoso moved to a second hospital in Colchester for her Part 2 midwifery program. She passed and became a State Certified Midwife (SCM) and a State Registered Nurse (SRN) in England before returning home to Nigeria with her husband in April 1967. She started work as a Registered Nurse (they were called staff nurses then) at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in 1967. About three years later, she moved to St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos where she worked for a couple of years. In 1970, she joined Jalupon Estate Hospital, Surulere just founded by Dr. M. O. Quadri, Lagos as the pioneer Nursing Sister. She became the hospital's first matron and rose to become the pioneer Director of Nursing (DON) before retiring in 1988. Doctor Quadri and his team at the hospital tried to prevail on her to put in some more years but her mind obviously was already made up. Mummy still had the nursing streak in her, but she wanted to try something different from the hospital environment. Mummy started Chrisphil Day Care, Anthony Village, Lagos, where she took care of babies while their moms went to work. She warmed her way into the hearts of the mothers for her love and tender care of their babies. This she did for a few years before she decided to stop working so she could devote more time to her loving husband and family.

During the year 2009, she travelled to the United States to reside with some of her children. She came to the US with a letter of recommendation from her pastor at the Anthony Village RCCG parish. After arriving in the United States, she attended the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victory House in Bellevue, Washington, which was then under pastor Sayo Ajiboye. When her family relocated to the great state of Texas in 2010, she joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victory House parish in Duncanville, which was then still in its early stages. Mummy Omotoso made herself available to help in any area that was in need. She however was a very strong member of the intercessory team. She was later to become a member of the RCCG Resurrection Chapel, Frisco under Pastor Olaniran after her daughter got married and moved to her husband's church.

Deaconness Omotoso was an active member of this parish and served in various capacities including Sunday school and prayer teams. Mummy was also an active member of the Praying Army, waking up to pray with the phone-based group every morning at five o'clock. She remained active until the Lord called her home on August 26, 2022. Suffice to say that Mummy was very active in every church she attended, and an outstanding disciple. She spent the rest of her life fully devoting all her time to her family, brethren, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
