IN LOVING MEMORY

Ola Jean "Jeanie" Burcham

Sep 24 1934 - Feb 24 2021

Jean Burcham of Frisco, Texas, entered Heaven early the morning of February 24, 2021.  Known as Jeanie to her family, she was the fourth of five children born to Angelo Paul and Grace Hagar.  She graduated from Mesquite High School in 1953 where she was a member of the band and an FFA Sweetheart.  She met Wayne Burcham on a blind date and they married in 1957.  After many years in Dallas where they had their four children, Jean and Wayne moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Wayne worked in the automobile industry.

In Tulsa, they were involved in all the kids’ school activities and enjoyed a host of friends.  Summers were spent at the lake with boats and motorcycles.  Sundays were spent at church where Wayne served as a deacon and Jean helped in the nursery.

Jean loved gardening and had beautiful azaleas and irises.  She and Wayne enjoyed horse racing and had season tickets in Hot Springs, Arkansas, for many years.  Later in life, Jean and Wayne returned to the Dallas area to join family.  They enjoyed hosting family gatherings where Jean was known for banana nut bread and cole slaw.  Jean valued education and encouraged all, especially her daughters and granddaughters, to attend college.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Zackie Wayne Burcham, her brother Paul Hagar and sister Mary Lou Anderson, as well as a step grandson, Joshua Wilson.

Jeanie is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Coe and Polly Carter and her husband, Cecil.  Her surviving four children and their spouses are Sandra and Bill Young, Landon and Michelle Burcham, Brian Burcham and Debbie and Chris Grube.  “Mimi” had four grandchildren, Ryan Young, Joshua Young, Katie Linn and Abby Linn.  She is also survived by step grandchildren Kitzie Vander Kooi, Amanda Sorrell, Abby Grube and Alex Grube and step great-grandchildren, Caden, Baylee, Liam and Miles Sorrell, Mitchell Vander Kooi, and Theodore, Joanna and Camilla Grube.  Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. The family sends special thanks to Jeanie’s niece, Kelly Carter, who was a great cook and delightful companion in her final days.

Due to these challenging times, masks will be required at her service that will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, TX 75033.  Interment follows at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco.
