Services for O. G. Bow, Jr., 93 of Greenville, Texas, will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 201 W. Maple Street, in Whitewright, Texas at 2:00 P. M. with Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the service at 1:00 P. M. There will also be a visitation at the Rodeo Arena at Top Rail Cowboy Church, 262 Horseman’s Road in Greenville, Texas on Friday evening from 7 to 9 P. M.
Mr. Bow was born on February 25, 1931 to Edgar R. Bow and Johnnie Newman Bow, five miles south of Whitewright, Texas. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1949. O. G. was self-employed in the horse business for over 50 years and was an HQHA judge at quarter horse shows for over 18 years. He trained and showed two HQHA Champions: “Miss Tater McCue” and “Vanzi Jobar”. He owned several horses that earned “Register of Merit”, including “Billy the Bum” stallion who was 7/8 thoroughbred and 1/8 quarter horse. He was clocked with Triple A speed at four different distances. Mr. Bow was an American Quarter Horse Association registered breeder for 50 years and produced AQHA registered horse shows for over 45 years.
Mr. Bow was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bow, his first wife, Bettie Bow, an Uncle, H. A. “Red” Bow, Aunt and Uncle, Foy and Dale Clower, his oldest son Michael Wayne Bow, (KIA – Vietnam 1970), and a Granddaughter, Angie Bow Rushing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Bow of Greenville, son Pat Bow of Ft. Worth, daughter Susie Bow Barnes and husband Russell of Flower Mound, son Rodney Bow and wife Peggy of Whitewright, grandsons Michael Bow and wife Danielle of Argyle, Parker Bow and wife Stephanie of Haslet, granddaughter Aubrey Barnes of Lewisville, a sister, Foy Jean Cate of Whitewright, four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Bow, Parker Bow, John Rushing, Alex Rushing, Jay Mayers and Russell Barnes. Honorary pallbearer will be Gary Hodgeman.
Internment will be at Oakhill Cemetery, 11234 FM 898, Whitewright, Texas, immediately following the service.
