IN LOVING MEMORY

Norman G. (Doc) Dotson

Oct 20 1931 - Feb 22 2021

Norman G. (Doc) Dotson of McKinney, Texas passed away on February 22, 2021 at the age of 89. He was born on October 20, 1931 to Patrick and Vesey (Osburn) Dotson in Texas City, Texas.  His father passed away at an early age and he was raised by a resourceful, working mom.  They moved frequently early in life but finally settled and flourished in McKinney.    Norman met Mary Dale Thurman in high school and married her while in college.  The Thurman family was like a second family to him.  Norman always worked and even worked his way through college.  He graduated from East Texas State University.  He later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of North Texas.   While attending East Texas State, Norman was with the first group of students to join the newly formed ROTC.  Upon graduation, Norman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a pilot based in Japan during the Korean War.  He continued his military service by remaining in the Air Force Reserves upon returning to McKinney.  He stayed in touch with his Air Force buddies and their families until his death.  Norman and Mary spent three years in post war Japan with his young family.  He worked as an accountant in private practice as well as corporate.  Norman was a member and a leader at First United Methodist Church of McKinney, serving on many committees.  He was a lifelong member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.  He was a 37-year Member of Kiwanis International and served in local, regional and national leadership roles. Norman was a Boy Scouts leader for many years.

He and his late wife Mary Thurman Dotson together made a good life, raised two daughters and had many friendships, most were lifelong.  Norman was a loving husband, one half of an amazing set (with Mary) of lifetime partners that began in high school and only was interrupted a few short years ago with her death. They are now reunited.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Christie (Corbett) and Denise Jones (Steve); granddaughters, Candice Singleton (Rob), Kelly Pemberton (Tom) and Shannon Jones; great granddaughters, Maddie and Audrey Singleton, Hannah and Meg Pemberton; and numerous other loving family and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Mary, and brother, Patrick O. Dotson.

Family and friends are invited to come to the funeral home on Thursday, February 25, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to pay their respects. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. Again, a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the church at any one time.  A private graveside service will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.

Memorial donations may be made to Kiwanis International and First United Methodist Church of McKinney.

The service will be livestreamed at www.sharingtheheart.org/ceremonies.
