IN LOVING MEMORY

Norma Jean Butler

May 17 1931 - May 06 2021

Lovely Norma Jean Butler passed away peacefully on May 6th 2021.  She had a staunch Catholic faith, strong character, a secure personality with tolerance, and good will toward everyone.  She never spoke unkindly about anyone.  She was blessed with a kind disposition, a love of life, and an unbelievably big smile for everyone.

She dearly loved and enjoyed her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.  She was so thankful for being blessed with them.  Sadly, Norma was unable to see some of her greatgrandchildren because of illness and Covid19.

Norma was the youngest child born to Elsie and George Sauer on May 17th 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She is survived by her husband Preston Butler, daughters Kim Butler, Jan Garner and Jill Schlachter, grandchildren Justin Garner, Brent Garner, Adam Schlachter, Jason Schlachter, Ashley Schlachter, Ryan Schlachter, and 14 greatgrandchildren.  Norma is also survived by her sister Marge Chandler and brother James Sauer.  Her sister Genevieve Lesman is deceased.

In 1949 Norma graduated from Speedway Highschool, Speedway Indiana, where she was valedictorian, and cheerleader and majorette for all four years.  As an American Airlines stewardess, Norma met Preston Butler, who adored her and whose heart she quickly captured and married on July 7th 1954.  This coming July would have been their 67th wedding anniversary.

Norma was a star homemaker for several years while also being involved in church and school activities.  In her middle years she worked at Bishop Dunne Highschool as a receptionist and secretary to the Principal.  She later worked at the Dallas Opera where she was secretary to the Executive Director.  Always a sport enthusiast, she played tennis and golf, and was a rabid fan of the Rangers, Cowboys, and Mavericks.

Norma enjoyed music and loved singing in the regular and funeral choirs at St Jude’s Church and in the Chorale at Heritage Ranch.  She also participated in the Variety Shows, Style Shows and was a member of the Fly Girls at Heritage Ranch.  Norma was always an avid reader and a lover of birds.  She was active in the Dallas Audubon Society.  For several years Norma did works of charity at St. Paul Hospital and in the Heart Association.

Norma will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.  Preston has always said that Norma is the greatest thing that ever happened to him and that he will always be with her forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in memory of Norma to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org

A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002. Inurnment will follow at St. Jude columbarium.
