On February 17, 1964, on the beautiful island of Nassau, Bahamas, Norman Joseph Baker (Deceased) and Marjorie Baker (Deceased) gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Norma Eushemia Baker-Joseph. However, most of you affectionately knew her as Shane. Shane began her early education at Steven Dillet and Yellow Elder Primary School. She then went on to continue her education at S.C. McPherson Junior High School. Shane then completed her education at A.F. Adderley Senior High School where you would frequently see her participating in various sports and dance teams. After completing high school, she worked for a period of time in the hospitality industry for various hotels in the Cable Beach area. This gave her the opportunity to let her light shine, however this was only the beginning. Shortly after, she found her passion in cosmetology and opened Baker’s Barber and Beauty salon where she met countless individuals through her craft that she then went on to call friends. Because of Shane’s energetic spirit and her passion for helping others, her business stayed open and flourished for 18 long years. Unforeseen circumstances caused Shane’s beauty shop to close down, which pushed her to become a life insurance agent, following behind her older sister Denise. But the truth is, Shane would do anything to provide a beautiful life for her children and ensure that they never want for anything.
Shane also had an entrepreneurial mindset, which led her to start her catering business where she made native Bahamian dishes and snacks for kids all across the island in the school setting, at sporting events, and even cultural parades. When Shane moved to America after working tirelessly to get here, her love for cooking continued, while she also continued to be a wonderful homemaker for her husband Pascal and her son Peyton.
At the tender age of 22, she gave birth to her first son, Vancas Deangelo, who was the epitome of everything Shane needed. He was perfect in every way and was always her little helper. Then 10 years later she gave birth to her second son, Devante Jair, who very easily became his mother’s shadow (and the kid that breastfed until he was 4 years old). Four years later, came her 1st daughter, Vandia, who was a mini-Shane in every way and emulated her without fail. To anyone Shane met, they could see that her kids were her world; she was an exceptional mother who raised her kids as a single mother until she met the love of her life, Pascal.
Shane and Pascal met at a disco, and it was love at first sight. Despite the cultural difference, their love kept them together and they were blessed with another son, Peyton, who very easily became Shane’s reason why. Despite Peyton’s disability, he was able in every way, able to place a smile on any and everyone's face, able to be Shane’s sidekick and right-hand man, and able to love her unconditionally every day for the past 17 years of his life. Once Shane and Pascal married, she became a bonus mom to her second daughter, Chryska. Shane’s family was everything to her and she always put them first, even if it meant giving her last. You often found Shane in the kitchen literally cooking up a feast or on the dance floor, singing at the top of her lungs and showing off her best dance moves. Besides providing for her family, there was nothing more that she wanted than for her family, especially her kids, to live as one. After the passing of her mother Marjorie, she became the glue that held everyone together. Shane battled cancer for 4 long years. God saw it fit for her to carry that burden and she sure did put her best foot forward. She never allowed cancer to dampen her spirit or her light. Even though she experienced constant pain, you rarely saw her without a smile, and she was always positive. Every day without fail, she would say “Oh, God, I thank you” because despite her situation, she trusted God with her life. and was thankful for everyday she lived to be around her family. As she battled cancer, she became a Glamma to her 1st grandchild Camila, who lives in our hearts forever, and her “handsome and smart boys” Devantito and Caleb, whom she loved dearly and would do anything for. She also became the grandma to her grandkids Idris Jadari and Scotland Shane, who she is caring for and loving right now in heaven before they bless the earth. Even though Shane endured so much pain throughout her battle, she fought hard until the very end. On June 16th , 2024, at 2 pm, Shane placed her battle in the Lord’s hand. She passed away to the bounds of eternal life in heaven with her loved ones by her side. She is home now, with her heavenly Father and all her loved ones who have gone on before her where she no longer feels pain. She is free and rejoicing in heaven.
