Nora Marie Cooper

April 26, 1928 - September 5, 2021

Nora Marie Capps Cooper passed away on September 5, 2021 at the age of 93. She was born on April 26, 1928 in Celina, Texas to John Wilson and Mary Edna Baldwin Capps. Marie was a graduate of SMU, returning to an interrupted quest for a degree after both of her children were of school age, where she attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Drama. She then attained a Master’s Degree in English at Texas Women’s University. She taught school at Atwell Junior High School for several years then at Skyline High School for 18 years. During the years that James was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Oak Cliff, Marie taught in the youth department and directed the church’s drama presentations. She excelled in everything she did. As a wife, a pastor’s wife (a job unto itself), a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a teacher, a friend … everything she did, she did with grace, kindness, and intelligence.

She is survived by her son, Jason Quicksilver of Everett, Washington; her daughter, Carolyn Ann Cooper of Plano, Texas; her granddaughter, Jessica Marie Morris and husband, Adam of Dallas, Texas; great granddaughter, Eleanor Ann Morris; brother, Wallace Glen Capps; along with her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, JoAnn Capps Wells, and her beloved husband, James Logan Cooper.

Per Marie’s request, there will be a graveside service only with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations to the Alzheimer’s Organization ( This dreadful disease robbed Marie of her memory and it would be greatly appreciated to have donations to find a cure.

Marie enriched the many lives she touched. I am truly happy she touched mine. Heaven is brighter today with Marie's light. Phillip Keller, September 11, 2021 Remember this lady well ... she was always so well-dressed and made a great wife for her husband, a great minister. Praying for her children! Carlene Smith, September 11, 2021 I know Marie only through you and Jess. Not just the Facebook posts but the way you and Jess interact with each other, the enormous love and respect you have for one another and Marie. The dedication you showed to your Dad and Mom, through every phase of their lives. I know Marie will be sorely missed but comfort will be there in the knowledge of her in Heaven with James and all the Heavenly hosts. Penny Livingstonez, September 11, 2021 My heartfelt sympathies are with you and your family, Carolyn, I have followed your post all year and was so glad you had that last day of obvious recognition from her, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Bly Halbrook, September 11, 2021 I went to Skyline in the 70’s and remember your mom from there but really feel like I got to know her through Carolyn when we worked together at Ericsson. I know she was loved and cared for up until her passing. May you all have peace now that she has returned home. Carol Hambrick, September 10, 2021
