Nolan Gale Umphress was born on February 17, 1929 in Blue Ridge, Texas to parents John Douglas Umphress and Exa Manus (Saye) Umphress. He passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the home of his daughters in Maypearl, Texas. He was 93 years of age.
Nolan married Zella Belle McLain on December 22, 1951 and soon after, Nolan headed to the Army to do his part in the Korean War. They settled down in Mesquite, TX and had 3 daughters. Nolan worked for TXU his entire career of 39 years along with several jobs on the side to take care of his growing family. After his retirement the couple loved to travel the country in their trailer. While at home Nolan loved gardening, wood working, keeping his yard, and helping his friends and family in any way. “Topsy”, as she was known by her friends and relatives, preceded him in death on April 20, 2013. Sadly, Nolan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s soon after. He continued to live a productive life with this disease for the better part of nine years.
He is survived by his three daughters, Dawn Lambert and her husband Ken, Robin Umphress and Niki Umphress. Grandchildren, Angela Green and her husband Ray, and Joey Ball and his wife Leticia. great-grandchildren, Morgan Green, Maci Green, Addison Ball, Camden Ball and Anderson Ball.
Nolan is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife and 10 siblings.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00PM at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 4:00PM the same day at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker with a burial following the service at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
