With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nelda Laverne (Klatt) Mitchell, who passed away on April 14, 2025, in Denison, Texas at the age of 90. She was born on August 13, 1934, to parents, Norbert Eduard Klatt and Martha Emma (Marwitz) Klatt in Hamilton, Texas. Nelda married the love of her life, Elmer Eugene Mitchell on August 15, 1952, in Dallas, Texas and shared 53 years together.
Nelda will be remembered by her daughters, Beverly Shopher and husband, Larry, of Denison, Texas, Cynthia Kohler of Leonard, Texas, and Monica Sorrells of Leonard, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Pat Hudson and Deborah Pate and husband, Bennie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer E. Mitchell; parents, Norbert and Martha Klatt; sons, Douglas Eugene Mitchell and Patrick Charles Mitchell; son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Kohler; grandchild, Christi Ochoa; and brothers, Kenneth Klatt and Alvin Klatt.
A funeral service, officiated by Bennie Pate, will be held at 11AM, Monday, April 21, 2025, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow, 701 North Cedar Street, Leonard, Texas 75452. A visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Following the service, a procession will lead to Grove Hill Cemetery for burial.
Pallbearers for Nelda’s service are Robert Kohler, Heath Sorrells, Benjamin Pate, Terry Sorrells, Jacob Whorton, and Kyle Ochoa. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan Hansen and Justin Whorton.
