Nawona "Mac" Gertrude Brown

Nawona “Mac” Gertrude Brown, age 92, of Ft. Worth, Texas, passed away December 6, 2012, in Arlington, Texas. Mac was born December 15, 1919, in Bonham, Texas, to Willis Lonzo and Rosa Lee (Bell) McRae. She was one of eleven children and her oldest brother, Troy, named her. Mac was a 1939 graduate of Bonham High School and in 1942 became a registered nurse. She lovingly cared for many people and earned the nickname, “The Unsinkable Saint Brown” from her patients. She married James Douglass Brown on July 12, 1946, in McKinney, Texas.  Mac was a lifelong Master Bridge player and also enjoyed “Texas 42” dominoes.

She is survived by her son, Doug Brown and wife, Sherry of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Bette Karen O’Steen and husband, Robert of West Virginia; grandsons, Nicholas Sims and wife, Tara of North Richland Hills, Texas and John Coldiron of Ft. Worth, Texas; granddaughter, Michelle Coldiron of Denton, Texas; and great-granddaughters, Jillian Sims of North Richland Hills, Texas and Elexa Mitchell of Denton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers, and three sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., Saturday evening at the funeral home.
