Nanella (Nan) Burrows Elliott, age 84, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on March 6, 2017 in Plano Texas. She was born on December 25, 1932 in Gorman, Texas, to Odell (Robbins) and Ralph H. Burrows. Nan lived in Texas her entire life and was a true southern lady.
On October 26, 1956, Nan married James Robert Elliott in Mexia, Texas. They were married for 42 years. They met in college and in their younger years enjoyed being part of a square dancing club. Nan and Robert also enjoyed supporting and attending high school sports and theatre functions in Frisco when their children were in school. They continued even after their own kids graduated.
Nan received her degree in Design from North Texas State University in 1955. After graduating, she used her talents working at a furniture store as an interior designer then at a florist shop and also as a wedding consultant. She went back to school to get her Master’s in Education at TWU and after graduation became a special education teacher in Frisco in the 1970’s.
She enjoyed tutoring and reading to children, cross stitching, hosting Christmas parties at the “Big Elliott” house, slumber parties with her girlfriends, decorating the house for each of the holidays, participated in a book club as an avid reader, gardening when her allergies would allow, and she enjoyed going out to lunch with her lifelong friends. Most importantly, though, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother, as well as “My Nan” or Nana to the children who adopted her.
Nan is survived by her three children, Jay Winston Elliott and his wife, Cheryne of Houston, Texas, Robert Brian Elliott of Allen, Texas, and Nan Eve Elliott-Sagerson and her husband, Steve of Keller, Texas; two grandchildren, Talley Grace Elliott and Hannah Jay Elliott.
Nanella is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Elliott; brother, Ronnie H. Burrows and her parents Odell and Ralph Burrows.
A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 7659 Preston Road, Frisco, Texas 75034, on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Judith Reedy officiating, with a reception to follow.
