Nancy Lee (Needham) Stinson of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away on October 23, 2019. She went peacefully in her sleep. She was born on January 1, 1940 to Joseph Needham and Helen (Healy) Needham in Saginaw, Michigan. Nancy graduated from high school in Saginaw. She married Robert “Bob” Stinson on August 27, 1960 in Saginaw. She worked at many schools to include one of the last one-room schools in Michigan and in a Roman Catholic school in Missouri. Nancy has an associate’s degree in Gerontology from George Washington University in Washington D.C. Nancy received her bachelor’s degree from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and a master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. At the end of her career, she was an adjunct professor in the psychology department teaching classes such as “death and dying/dignity in death” and “human sexuality” at Cameron University.
Nancy loved traveling and organized many travel groups. In 1978, she was one of the first people to take a group to Mainland China after it opened for tourists. One of her favorite trips was an annual trek to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she arranged for a jam-packed series of events for a number of women. She also scheduled numerous day trips for her fellow church members. She was raised Episcopalian but more recently attended Boulevard Congregational and Christian church Lawton for several years. She was an Elder Emeritus at that church.
Nancy’s husband Bob was in the U.S. Army and Nancy accompanied him to many posts around the world to include West Germany, South Korea, and Indonesia. In the United States they were stationed in Indianapolis, Indiana; Washington D.C.; Stewart Field, New York; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and finally at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where they retired.
Nancy served several years on the boards of Goodwill Industries and Quality Enterprises in Lawton.
Nancy is survived by her husband, of 59 years, Bob Stinson; son, Jay Stinson and his wife, Kimberly Carbone of Prosper, Texas; son, Jeff Stinson and his wife, Tori of McKinney, Texas; cousin, Kathy Needham of Farmington Hills, Michigan; sister-in-law, Marlene Needham of Hemlock, Michigan; brother-in-law, Larry Stinson and his wife, Joan of Townsville, South Carolina; granddaughter, Aleeha Staser of Prosper, Texas; grandsons, J.C. Carbone of Prosper, Texas, Bryan Forth of Denison, Texas and Chris Stinson of Sherman, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen Needham; and her brother, Jerry Needham.
A memorial service will be held in Lawton, Oklahoma.
