Nancy Gage (Howe) Knott passed away July 28, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on January 24, 1928, to her loving parents, Harold Howe and Gladys (Wenzel) Howe in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Growing up in Oshkosh, Nancy embarked on a journey at Oshkosh State Teacher College. It was during a library visit with friends that she first heard an admiring whistle, marking the serendipitous moment she met the love of her life, Charles Henry Knott. Their connection was instant and profound. Nancy transferred to the University of Wisconsin, and Charles followed her there. The couple graduated together in 1950, and their love was solidified on their wedding day, August 12, 1950. Together, Charles and Nancy were blessed with three children: Kristen, Jeff, and Cheri. They dedicated themselves to raising their family, creating countless joyful memories along the way. Their life together was a testament to their deep bond and shared commitment to each other and their family.
Nancy lived a richly varied and fulfilling life. She navigated through multiple careers, including stints as a substitute teacher, working with a yearbook company, and at the IRS, before spending over 20 years with Elgin ISD in the Chicago area. Retirement brought her and her husband Charles to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas, where they embraced the warmth and closeness to their kids and grandkids.
A proud sixty-year member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization for women's education, Nancy found joy in giving back to the community. She was a natural hostess, known for her love of entertaining and her knack for setting a beautiful table with an assortment of cutlery and plates. She was also known as an avid bridge player after learning the game in high school.
Nancy and Charles made the most of their vacations, exploring the mountains and touring European countries. Nancy meticulously documented their travels, creating detailed records with maps, postcards, and other mementos. She took great pride in being the family historian, preserving their cherished memories with care.
Charles and Nancy’s enduring love was a testament to their remarkable partnership, with nearly 74 years of marriage. Their bond remained strong and affectionate, right up to the very end.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband Charles Henry Knott, of Dallas, Texas; daughter Kristen Burrows (Scott), of Spicewood, Texas; son, Jeffrey Knott (Sandra), of Plano, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Mercer, of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Marya, Austin, Jessica, Jennifer, Kathryn, and Kristen; great grandchildren, Weston, Everly, Grayson, Evelyn, Gage, Solana, and Vivian; and numerous other loving family and friends, who will dearly miss her and cherish her memory.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Gladys (Wenzel) Howe; and brother, Donald Howe.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
