IN LOVING MEMORY

Myrtle D. Dodd

Jun 25 1945 - Dec 16 2020

Myrtle D. Dodd passed away December 16, 2020 at the age of 75 in McKinney, Texas. She was born June 25, 1945 to Charles Lee Crowder and Mary Lorinda Ruddick in Sunflower, Kansas. Myrtle married Archie R. Dodd on November 29, 1963 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Myrtle was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She never said an unkind word about anyone. Her love for others knew no limitations. She was a devoted Christian who spread God’s word through her grace and sincerity.

Myrtle graduated from Bartlesville High School and married her high school sweetheart, Archie. Together they started a new life in the military and moved to a naval base in California where she served as a magnificent newlywed housewife while Archie was off to war in Vietnam. While living on base, she met her best friend, Mary (and Bo) Lee of Savannah, GA.  Their friendship lasted for 50+ years, withstanding the test of time and distance.

The happy couples next move took them back home to Bartlesville where they started a family. Myrtle then added the title of “best mom ever” to her long list of accomplishments when she brought two young sons into the world. She always promoted God and Family first, and never missed the chance to pray or worship with others. She led by example and was truly the family matriarch.

As her kids grew older, Myrtle ventured outside the home to work with a servant’s heart. She worked for many years with the local Youth and Family Services program and Voice of the Martyrs in Bartlesville. Both organizations offered her the opportunity to help others in need. She was a gift from God to many.

There was no stronger fraternal bond than that of Myrtle and her sister, Aggie Shahan. Over the years, Myrtle cherished her trips to Colorado each summer to visit, share stories and create new experiences. Regardless the distance or challenges presented, they were forever inseparable. Myrtle often told her boys, “the greatest gift our parents ever gave us is the gift of a sibling. Forever love that relationship.” She dearly loved her sister.

Never afraid of an adventure, Myrtle and Archie moved to McKinney, TX in 2006 to be closer to their grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her life. Myrtle always said that her hobbies were her grand kids. She never missed a school event, recital, or sporting activity. She was their biggest fan.

While in Texas, Mrytle was also able to work for her beloved church, Hope Fellowship in Frisco, TX as an Assistant to the Pastoral Staff for several years. This allowed her to continue to share her faith and love for Jesus Christ with many.

Raising two boys was the one thing she said she loved the most. And while the boys may have been a bit mischievous at times, she always said, “all I want on my tombstone is ‘she tried’ ”. Well mom, you not only tried, you did an exceptional job!

She is survived by her husband, Archie R. Dodd of McKinney, Texas; sons, Michael Dodd and wife, Robin of McKinney, Texas and Stephen Dodd of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Garrett, Madison, Tanner and Sawyer; sister, Aggie Shahan and a host of other loving family and friends.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Crowder.
