Myrna Lee Harris Maxwell of Anna, Texas passed away on January 17th, 2024. She was born January 7, 1938, in South Nuttall, West Virginia, to Homer and Beulah Harris. Myrna went to high school in Fayetteville, West Virginia, where she took accelerated courses and graduated at the age of 16. Too young to find work at that age, she worked at the school as a teacher’s aide and taught Shorthand for one year, followed by a year of working for State Farm Insurance in Fayetteville. Myrna then moved to Washington, DC for work with the Security Police of the Air Force, where she had a very distinguished career for many years, working for a General and obtaining a top-secret security level. It was here that she met the charming Air Force serviceman, Tommy Paul Maxwell, and they would marry in 1961. Myrna and Tommy had two children, Karen and Tommy Lee, and the family moved to Texas in 1978. Myrna was an outspoken woman and would gladly offer her opinions or unsolicited advice which we all knew to be a part of her. And the only thing she loved more than her dogs, was her family. Family meant everything to her. She was also a long-time member of Melissa Church of God, and she held pastor Kelly Montgomery in high regard. As she said in a poem she wrote about him, Kelly “snatched souls back from Hell” and his ministry is one of the reasons we know she is resting in God’s salvation today.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Bowden of Malakoff, Texas, and her son, Tommy Lee Maxwell and wife Darla Maxwell, of Anna, Texas, her siblings Barbara Cawthorne and husband Fred of Tipton, Oklahoma, Jimmy Harris and wife Nancy of Vineland, New Jersey, and Velda Berkhouse and husband Rick of Fayetteville, West Virginia, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Paul Maxwell, parents, Homer Harris and Beulah Harris Adkins, and her sister Phyllis Sexton. The reunion in Heaven must be beautiful.
A Celebration of Life Event will be held for Myrna on Monday, January 29th, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Melissa Church of God in Melissa, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to the Melissa Church of God at 1603 Harrison Street, Melissa, Texas, 75454, in the memory of Myrna Maxwell. May she rest in the arms of the Lord for all of eternity.
