Myrna Kay Barr

Myrna Kay Barr, age 68, of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away at her home on October 24, 2019.  She was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Julia Louise (Lloyd) and Richard Lee Jacks. Myrna married David F. Barr on May 2, 1987 in Garland, Texas. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Banking Industry most of her professional career. Myrna loved helping customers and becoming friends with them. She was an excellent cook and baker, loved to sew, was creative and imaginative. Myrna was kind and pure in heart. She loved deeply and made the best of every situation. She was strong and determined and faced everything head on. Myrna loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Van Alstyne. Her life was a reflection of the love she had for her Lord Jesus Christ.

Myrna is survived by her husband, David Barr of Van Alstyne, Texas; her son, Roger Nolen and wife, LeighAnn of McKinney, Texas and daughter Lori Nolen of McKinney, Texas; and her grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Nolen. 

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee and Julia Jacks; and her brother, Roger Ray Jacks.

The family will receive guests during a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 300 W. Pecan Street, Gunter, Texas 75058, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with Pastor Jack Washington officiating.  Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery.

In January 2018, Myrna was diagnosed with glioblastoma level 4, the deadliest form of brain cancer. She beat the average survival rate by eight months while sustaining a decent quality of life. Myrna's twenty-two month cancer journey was her greatest legacy and testimony of her faith. No tears or self-pity, no questioning; only courage and faith that God would guide her through it until she came home to Him.
