Myrna Kay Barr

March 8, 1951 - October 24, 2019

Myrna Kay Barr, age 68, of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away at her home on October 24, 2019.  She was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Julia Louise (Lloyd) and Richard Lee Jacks. Myrna married David F. Barr on May 2, 1987 in Garland, Texas. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Banking Industry most of her professional career. Myrna loved helping customers and becoming friends with them. She was an excellent cook and baker, loved to sew, was creative and imaginative. Myrna was kind and pure in heart. She loved deeply and made the best of every situation. She was strong and determined and faced everything head on. Myrna loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Van Alstyne. Her life was a reflection of the love she had for her Lord Jesus Christ.

Myrna is survived by her husband, David Barr of Van Alstyne, Texas; her son, Roger Nolen and wife, LeighAnn of McKinney, Texas and daughter Lori Nolen of McKinney, Texas; and her grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Nolen.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee and Julia Jacks; and her brother, Roger Ray Jacks.

The family will receive guests during a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 300 W. Pecan Street, Gunter, Texas 75058, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with Pastor Jack Washington officiating.  Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery.

In January 2018, Myrna was diagnosed with glioblastoma level 4, the deadliest form of brain cancer. She beat the average survival rate by eight months while sustaining a decent quality of life. Myrna's twenty-two month cancer journey was her greatest legacy and testimony of her faith. No tears or self-pity, no questioning; only courage and faith that God would guide her through it until she came home to Him.

William & Millie Ortiz, November 2, 2019 Although it has been many years since we were in touch, I am so grateful for having had Myrna in my life. I know of no better mother, wife or friend. She was beautiful, inside and out, and had the most giving spirit. And she was so much fun! I will always remember you Myrna, with much love and laughter.
Meg Lusardi, November 1, 2019 Myrna was such a great person to know. I first met Myrna at Community Bank-Rockwall and then again when I came to work at American National. When my daughter-in-law Leslie (who worked with Myrna at the McKinney office) had a baby shower, Myrna gifted me with a basket full of books that were her grandchildren's. My grandson and I read them often, especially more now that he is learning how to read. That was Myrna always thinking of others and their happiness. She will forever be in my prayers as well as her family that will miss her. God Bless you always, Yvonne Yvonne Hanks, November 1, 2019 My dear friend, you will be missed, but you were the most precious gift and most courageous and faithful servant of God that I know. You are safely home now without pain and illness. I know that you will be with us all. Please say hello to Al for me and some day we will all meet again. David, as you walk this journey, my door is open and I am here for you. It's hard to comprehend God's plan. But in time you will see his picture. Love, Sharon

I still remember the little outfit you made for my Tara...she was born on your birthday. I love you sweet cousin. Say hello to uncle Bill and Aunt Julia for me. RIP sweet girl. You will be missed. Sonya Jacks Cash, October 28, 2019 Myrna will be missed by everyone that knew her. We had been friends since the 7th grade & even though all through our adult life we have lived at least an hour - two hours away, we have always remained in touch, loving and laughing about life. From Sunday School, middle school, high school graduation, baby showers, bridesmaids, weddings, grandchildren, we have shared a lot of laughter and tears. What a Jewel she was, All my love to her family. Cynthia Morse, October 28, 2019 I am so sorry for your loss. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
