Monty Goodwyn, 60, a longtime resident of McKinney, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2020. Monty was born in El Paso, Texas to Roland and Glenda Goodwyn on April 19, 1959. The family would move to Lubbock, Texas when Monty was in his younger years. At Coronado High School in Lubbock, Monty met the love of his life, Laura Hudnall. They married on July 1, 1977 and started their family having three sons. They would move from Lubbock to Plano, Texas in 1980 where they would spend the next 20 years raising their family. Monty would find his niche in sales. He was the definition of a great salesman. After trying out various industries, he would settle in flooring where his father had already established a career. In 1982, along with his father and brother, they founded Goodwyn’s House of Carpets later to be known as Builder’s Carpet and Design Center, where he would spend the rest of his career. Monty was dedicated to his employees, hiring many friends and family members through the years. Monty was passionate about sports. He was an avid golfer and had the good fortune to have played many of the finest courses in the world. He loved the Dallas Mavericks and was a long time season ticket holder. More recently, Monty and Laura had begun to enjoy traveling the world, seeing many of the places they had dreamed of visiting. Monty was also a huge animal lover and loved his pets unconditionally. His greatest joy was playing and spending time with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Monty was a Christ follower and spent many hours studying the Bible and trying to deepen his relationship with God. He raised his family in prayer and love for the Lord.
Monty is preceded in death by his father, Roland Goodwyn.
Monty is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laura; sons, Jason Goodwyn and wife, Lesly, Jordan Goodwyn, and Trey Goodwyn and wife, Siobhain; brother, Ronnie Goodwyn and wife, Vanessa; sisters, Cindy Goodwyn and Amy Leask and husband, David; mother, Glenda Goodwyn; grandchildren Robin, Lucy, Alice, Grace, and Moses Goodwyn; and many other loving family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2020 at Chase Oaks Church in Plano, Texas with Dr. Gene Getz officiating. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
