Monty Erle Montgomery II was born September 7, 1997 in Denison, Texas to Monty Erle Montgomery and Donna Michelle Gentry Montgomery. He died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Medical City in Dallas, Texas at the age of 19, surrounded by his family and a wonderful caring medical staff. He was a life long resident of Tom Bean, Texas.
Monty was born without an immune system and knew his whole life that a day would come that his body would fail him. He lived his life with courage and joy. He fought to live his life to the fullest. He did not let his health stop him from living life. Monty was a model of life to all who knew him. All who knew him loved him. Monty will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
One of Monty’s wishes was to be baptized. He became a member and was baptized last spring at King’s Trail Cowboy Church in Whitewright.
He is survived by parents, Monty and Donna Montgomery of Tom Bean; brothers, James Martin and wife Brittany of Dorchester, and Justin Shrum of Tom Bean; sister, Macey Montgomery of Indiana; grandparents, Apollo and Theresa Adame, and Les and Debby Montgomery all of Tom Bean; aunts and uncles, Mike and Theresa Garner, Kelli Smith, and Les Montgomery; niece, Charlie Kahn; nephews, Nathaniel Pugh, Slayden Martin, Dylan Montgomery, Logan Montgomery, Alex Montgomery, Kolten Kahn, and Aiden Clark; brother-from-another-mother, Jonah Gilmore. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Melba Gentry; papa, Eddy Rigsbay; great-grandmothers, Frances Montgomery and Mattie Athans; numerous other loved family.
Graveside Services will be held 10:00 AM, July 6, 2017 at Cedar Cemetery, Sherman, Texas. Officiating the service will be Brother Jason Norton. The family will receive friends during a visitation on July 5, 2017 from 6-8pm at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers, Drs and nurses who gave Monty care throughout his life. The people at Medical City Children’s Hospital were Monty’s second family. Because of the care and support by everyone, the family would encourage that memorials may be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation, Inc., 12221 Merit Drive, Suite 500, Dallas, Texas 75251. This would help bless someone else as Monty was blessed.
