It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mohinder “Mina” Kaur, a cherished soul who lived a life of grace, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born on November 5, 1935, in Malerkotla, modern day Pakistan, Mina passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, in Allen, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.
Mina’s early life remained shaped by the vibrant cultures of Jammu, Patiala, and Ranchi in northern India. She pursued her education with passion, earning a Bachelor’s in Arts and a Master’s in Education, which laid the foundation for her remarkable career in academia. Mohinder served as a professor and head of the History Department and later retired as the Principal of the Teacher’s Training College in Jammu, earning the admiration and respect of her colleagues and students alike. Many in Jammu still talk about the indelible mark she left.
A cultural enrichment advocate, Mina spearheaded her college’s cultural committee, organizing plays, debates, and dance performances that showcased her own artistic talents and inspired countless others. After her retirement, Mina's compassionate spirit led her to a higher calling. Invited by a Gurudwara, she took on the noble mission of starting a school for children affected by the 1984 riots, providing them with education and hope in their darkest hours.
Beyond her professional and community contributions, Mina was an expert in cooking and stitching, and she shared her culinary artistry with family and friends. She was a beacon of love and tradition, passing down her skills and values to those fortunate enough to know her.A gifted orator and a skilled reciter of the Guru Granth Sahib, she moved audiences with her soulful renditions, earning accolades from her community in Nashville, where she was deeply loved and respected.
Mina is survived by her devoted son, Inderdeep Singh, daughter-in-law Nirlap Kaur, her loving daughter Indu Bal, and her three adoring grandsons, Abhay, Deven, and Ajay, and her granddaughter-in-law, Tarana. Her legacy of strength, kindness, and wisdom will forever remain in their hearts.
A life so richly lived cannot be forgotten. Mohder Kaur’s journey touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of education, culture, and compassion. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her as a beloved educator and pillar of her community.
A funeral service and prayer in her honor will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
