Milton Hoyt Thomas of Garland was born December 22, 1939 and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on July 23, 2018 at the age of 78. He was a faithful husband, father and friend. Hoyt was born to Vernon and Bessie (Jones) Thomas in the Rosehill Community, now a part of Garland. In 1963, he married his soul mate of 53 years, Carolynn Hamilton. The family was completed when they adopted their beautiful daughter, Deborah Lynn who was born in 1970. In 2004, Debbie married Bryan Day and Hoyt became a “Papaw” to grandsons, Hunter and Tyler.
Hoyt graduated from Garland High School in 1958. He was a United States Postal Service Letter Carrier for 12 years before he earned an associate degree from Eastfield Community College and Bachelor’s degree from A&M Commerce. He earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. After that time, he was an Industrial Technology teacher at South Garland High School for 20 years, retiring in 2000. He was a huge Colonel football fan who hardly ever missed a game with his good buddies, Tom White and Don Bohart. After retiring, Hoyt enjoyed traveling & watching sports.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Lynn and Bryan Day of Allen, Texas; grandsons, Hunter Day and wife, Bee of Plano, Texas and Tyler Day of Murphy, Texas; sister, Sharon Strawther; and many other extended family and friends.
Hoyt was preceded in death by his wife, Carolynn Hamilton Thomas; his parents, Vernon and Bessie (Jones) Thomas; brothers, Vernon Ray, Jr. and Jimmy Thomas; and sister, Wanda Thomas Compton; and several dear friends.
In keeping with his love of education, Hoyt willed his body to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
As a celebration of their everlasting love, Hoyt’s remains will be mixed with those of his beloved wife, Carolynn and scattered in several of their favorite places.
A memorial service will be held on at 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. A reception will follow.
