Mikel Allen Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on February 28, 2022 at the age of 67. He was born in 1954 to Frank K. Smith and Dorothy Mae Polson Smith of Bloomington Normal, Illinois. Mikel was the youngest of Frank and Dorothy's five children.
In 1989 Mikel married Pamela L. Jones in Longview, Texas. Their outdoor garden ceremony was officiated by Mikel’s Father-in-Law, Reverend Gary Jones. After the ceremony the couple returned to Tuscola, Illinois, where Mikel started his new job as owner-operator for a National Petroleum company, and Pamela worked as a Dental Consultant and Registered Representative.
In 1991, Mikel and Pamela welcomed their first and only baby, Ashley. Mikel enjoyed coaching Ashley’s Tee-Ball games, basketball games, spelling bee competitions, and modeling venture. He was her biggest fan. Mikel helped Ashley further her mission in life by establishing a nonprofit called Freedom’s Fund USA, Inc. He is the Founding Father of the organization as the mission is to protect freedom and national security. Ashley Smith Thomas is the CEO of the nonprofit.
In 1999, Mikel moved his family to Texas. Ever since, Mikel was a proud Texan and enjoyed the many golf courses Texas has to offer. He was an avid golfer. Mikel planned to retire in April of 2022, after 30 years of service with FedEx Freight. He planned to travel all fifty states within the United States playing at Championship golf courses. Aside from golfing, he enjoyed serving and blessing others. He actively volunteered at church and gave back to the community.
In his spare time Mikel not only enjoyed golfing, but he enjoyed spending time with family, traveling to the Texas Hill Country, and watching John Wayne movies.
Mikel is survived by his wife Pamela Smith of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Ashley Smith Thomas and husband William Thomas of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Heather Smith of Arcola, Illinois; brother, Frank Smith Jr. and wife, Kendra of Champaign, Illinois; sister, Marilyn Ostberg of Virginia Beach, Virginia; seventeen nieces and nephews.
Mikel is preceded in death by his parents, Frank K. Smith and Dorothy Mae Polson Smith; brother, Ron Smith; sister, Phyllis Yoder.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 North Central Expressway, Allen, Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
