Mike Raye Grant, Sr. of Little Elm, Texas, passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on August 7, 1953, to M. C. Grant, Sr. and Vera Lee Grant (née Castle) in Houston, Texas.
Mike graduated from Kashmere High School in 1971 and went on to study Physical Education at Texas Southern University (TSU) on a football scholarship. He excelled not only on the football field but also in his academics. Mike was also a participant in Track and Field sports during his time at Kashmere High School. On March 13, 2004, Mike married Olive Daye Clark in McKinney, Texas. Together, they shared many memorable years. He cherished his family above all else and his love for them knew no bounds. He was deeply involved in their lives, supporting them in their endeavors and offering guidance whenever needed. Mike retired from Houston Metro Transportation.
Mike had a passion for fashion, always exuding style and sophistication. He dressed up for every occasion and took pride in his appearance. In addition to fashion, Mike had a knack for decor and enjoyed creating beautiful spaces. He loved to grill and entertain, showcasing his culinary skills to his loved ones. Mike's warm and inviting nature made him a natural conversationalist and a great host. He had a unique ability to engage people in meaningful conversations and was always the life of the party. Music was another one of Mike's great loves. He had a diverse taste and could appreciate various genres.
When he needed a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Mike could be found casting his fishing line to provide him with a peaceful escape and an opportunity to connect with nature. Mike was a devoted member of Amity Bible Church, where he found strength in his faith and derived guidance for his life. He valued his spiritual community and actively participated in various church activities.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Mike will always be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a doting grandfather. Mike will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Olive Grant of Little Elm, Texas; son, Mike Raye Grant, Jr. and wife, Candace of Humble, Texas; daughter, Tiffany Oubre Wiggins and husband, David of Cypress, Texas; son, Brian Grant of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Taia Oubre of Houston, Texas and Deonna Wiggins of Cypress, Texas; brother, M.C. Grant, Jr. and wife, Joan of Allen, Texas; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by parents, M.C., Sr. and Vera Grant and sister, Brenda Grant-McMillian.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
