Mickey Gene Johnson, 74, of McKinney, Texas, passed away August 17, 2026, surrounded by family.
He was born on September 22, 1951, in Borger, Texas, to Cleon and Joyce Johnson and grew up in Amherst, Texas. He continued his education at Eastern New Mexico University, where he played football, and West Texas State University. He married Rita (McAdams) Johnson on May 18, 1974. Mickey and Rita shared 37 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, Gabe and Matt.
Mickey was funny, stubborn, generous, loyal, and kind-hearted. He was the type of person who would give what he had, help when he could, and care deeply about the people in his life. He was genuinely a good man, and his family will remember him for the love, humor, and strength he brought into their lives.
Mickey loved fishing, but he especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports. Whether he was in the stands or on the sidelines, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on and provide constructive feedback to sports officials. He was also known for the little things that made him Mickey. He liked to wear Hawaiian shirts and almost always had candy in his pockets, usually along with a few Tums.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Cleon and Joyce Johnson; his brother, Gary Johnson; his sister, Linda Pence; and his wife, Rita Johnson.
He is survived by his son, Gabe Johnson and wife Amy, and their children, Kinley, Chloe, and Cayden; and his son, Matt Johnson and wife Kary, and their children, Jack and Ruby.
Mickey leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and a lifetime of memories that will be carried forward in the stories they tell, the laughter they share, and the traditions they continue. He will be remembered with a fishing pole in his hand, candy in his pocket, and most of all, always being there for his family.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday evening from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment followed at Wilson Chapel Cemetery, 100 Chapel Ln, McKinney, Texas 75069.
