Michelle was born in Wichita, Kansas on June 24, 1957, to the late Willie Gunter II and Betty Jean (Fisher) Gunter. She attended Wichita Public Schools (Isley, Sunnyside, College Hill Elementary, Robinson and Curtis Jr. High, and Southeast High School).
At an early age, Michelle was a successful entrepreneur, owning a janitorial cleaning company, working as a professional event planner, webpage designer, and operating Princess Galleria and Tutu Girly. Michelle was always young at heart and loved working with young girls, helping develop their inner beauty and self-esteem—guiding them into becoming young ladies, or as she lovingly called them, her “princesses.”
Michelle loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays—decorating, shopping, and going to the casino. She created beautiful holiday baskets for Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas. On birthdays, she made sure your entire week was celebrated.
In 2006, Michelle married Charles Henry Griggsby until his passing in August 2020. In addition to her parents, Michelle was preceded in death by her brothers Victor Richmond and Willie Gunter III.
Michelle’s life was a reflection of love, strength, and creativity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Michelle leaves to cherish her memory: Daughter, Angel Anderson (JJ), Frisco, TX; Grandchildren: Brian (BJ) Chandler, Alaiyah Chandler, Jayce Anderson, Ava Anderson, Jayden Anderson; Sisters: Barbara Carson (Wichita), Jacqueline Reid (Wichita), Randi Foster (Wichita), Angela (Joe) Maith (Maryland), Denise (James) Gehrke (Overland Park, KS), Jackie Knew (Aubrey, TX); Brothers: Charles (Sharon) Gunter, Dean (Renee) Young, Lester (Pam) Phillips and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones
Poem
If one day I leave this world without a final hug, without one last “I love you”…
I hope you already felt it.
In every meal I made.
Every late-night talk.
Every silent prayer I whispered for you.
Thank you for letting me be your mom.
For the chaos, the laughter, the noise
and the beautiful mess we called life.
You gave my life purpose.
A reason to be strong.
A reason to keep going.
I hope my love stays with you –
In your choices,
In your kindness,
In your sense of courage.
No matter how far life takes you,
You will always be the greatest joy of my heart.
Scripture
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…” – Psalm 23
On Behalf of the Family
Today, we gather with heavy hearts to say our final goodbye to someone who meant so much to us. Losing someone we love is never easy, and words often fail to express the depth of our sorrow.
Michelle was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—she was a light in our lives. Her laughter, wisdom, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts. She taught us love, patience, and compassion.
Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the memories we cherish and the love she gave so freely.
Today, we say goodbye with tears, but also with gratitude for the beautiful moments we shared.
We will honor Michelle’s life by carrying her love forward.
She will always be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.
