Michael Ray Spurgin, 66, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021 at his home in McKinney, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 9, 1954 to Garnett Lee and Artie Pearl Spurgin. Mike grew up in McKinney where he attended school. He then served our country as a member of the Military Police in the United States Air Force. Mike worked as an independent contractor for many years and then as a security guard before retiring. Through these past few years he inspired so many by his courage and strength. Mike was known for his witty sense of humor and the fact he never met a stranger.
He is survived by his loving fiancé, Janith Boyd; children, Michael Paul Spurgin and wife, Tracy, Jille Rae Wright and husband, Tony, Emily Anne Spurgin, Sarah Brooke Spurgin, and Johnathan Matthew Spurgin; seven grandchildren and 1 great grandson; brothers, Jackie Spurgin and wife, Margaret, Gary Spurgin and wife, Donna; sister-in-law, Barbara Spurgin; brothers in law, Bill Cordes and Bill Stevens; and numerous other family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; sisters, Betty Sue and Joyce; and brother, Bobby.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the Memorial Service.
However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Mike and show their support to his family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.
At the end of his treatment, he was diagnosed with Lymphedema. We as a family would ask that memorial donations in Mike’s honor be made to the Lymphatic Education and Research Network, lymphaticnetwork.org.
