Mike Snetzer of Frisco, Texas passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the age of 80. He was born on May 26, 1940 to Robert Ellis Snetzer and Katheryn Virginia (Wake) Snetzer in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. and later an M.B.A. from SMU. From June 1,1963 to November 30, 1966 Mike served as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War receiving several awards for his service to his country. After serving in Vietnam Mike started his career with Collins Radio in Finance later serving as the Vice President of Finance at University Computing Company (UCC). After UCC Mike continued his career at Valhi where he served as Company President for several years prior to retirement.
Mike was extremely accomplished and dedicated in whatever he set his mind to. This includes his military service, business career, family life, and his commitment to the church community at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Mike was the leader of the Snetzer family and a patriarch in the truest sense. He was a mentor and advisor to all, especially immediate and extended family. He loved a good debate and if you were unfortunate enough to end up in the flack chair you would not get the last word in.
Mike’s love and care for his family was illustrated through his diligent planning to ensure that everything was taken care of. He even planned his passing and maintained his sense of humor throughout. When a nurse came into the room to say goodbye at the end of her shift, she said, “I’ll see you tomorrow Mike!” to which Mike replied, “You might see me but I won’t see you!” and winked at her. His level of stoicism and grit will greatly be missed and is an example to us all.
Mike is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Snetzer of Frisco, Texas; sons, Michael Snetzer and wife, Sonia of Prosper, Texas and Greg Snetzer and wife, Sarah of Frisco, Texas; and 5 grandchildren, McKenna, Ava, Greyson, Neiman, and Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Adam” Snetzer; parents, Robert and Kathryn Snetzer; and sister, Virginia Terpening.
