IN LOVING MEMORY

Michael Wayne “Mick” Tinsley, Jr.

Aug 31 1972 - May 15 2026

Michael Wayne “Mick” Tinsley, Jr., 53, of McKinney, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 15, 2026, at his home. He was born August 31, 1972, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Michael Wayne Tinsley, Sr. of Plano, Texas and Susie Satterfield Tinsley Baker who resides in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Mick was an amazingly talented songwriter and performer who spent numerous years touring North America with his bands, Aristaya, Ice Cold July, and Jones. In recent years, he formed the Mick Tinsley Trio and The Michael Brothers, and performed with a number of other artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In 2017, Mick released a solo album, entitled Common Man, and most recently, was composing and arranging songs for recording a new album. In 2015, he was named the Rusty Weir Singer/Songwriter of the Year, in part for his work on the Common Man album.

Mick was a loving and compassionate man who truly enjoyed being around people and helping those who needed it. His music no doubt touched thousands of lives of those who could relate to his songwriting and to the phenomenal way he played a guitar. Interestingly, Mick was left-handed, but he had learned to play on a right-handed guitar by chording upside down. He could play any genre, from rock to country and R&B, but Blues was truly his passion. His stage presence and lyrics resonated with audiences of all ages and from every background.

Mick's life was defined by a profound devotion to his family and friends. He possessed a rare gift for inspiring those around him to pursue their own potential and become the best versions of themselves. It is often said that people may forget what you say or do, but they never forget how you made them feel — a sentiment that truly captured the essence of Mick's life. While he was a remarkable artist, his greatest legacy lies in the person he was; simply being in his presence had the power to uplift everyone he encountered.

Beyond his cherished role as Poppy, Mick was the true heart of his family. Long before he was a father or partner, he was a wonderful son and devoted brother, roles he fulfilled with unwavering kindness and care. As a partner, he was a steadfast companion, offering a sense of security and warmth that made every day feel brighter. As a father, he stood as a pillar of strength, dedicated to providing guidance and unconditional love. His life remains a beautiful testament to a home built on deep devotion, and his profound influence will continue to resonate within the lives of those he held most dear. He found immense fulfillment in his roles as Poppy and best friend to Aven. From their shared explorations of the natural world and their mutual appreciation for music to the lighthearted exchange of dad jokes, every experience was cherished. Their bond represented a profound and enduring connection, serving as a heartfelt testament to the power of friendship.

Mick is survived by his loving life partner, Denise Tracy; daughter, Victoria Tracy; grandson, Aven Curtis; mother, Susie Baker (Joe); sister, Christy Tinsley Ilfrey (David); niece, Sage Ilfrey; extended family members; and innumerable friends who are more like brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Tinsley, and grandparents: Dennis Tinsley, Mary Hancock Tinsley McLaughlin, Mildred Lavender Satterfield Baker, and Frank Satterfield, Jr.
