Michael John Lauffer

Michael John Lauffer of McKinney, Texas went to be with Jesus on October 28, 2021 at the age of 74.  He was born on June 30, 1947 to Paul Marion Lauffer and Ethel (Lunsford) Lauffer in Columbus, Ohio.  Mike was married to Pamela (Shields) Lauffer for 52 years.  Mike is a graduate of the Ohio State University and a proud veteran with the United States Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard.  He served his country admirably as a KC-135 pilot during both the Vietnam and Desert Storm conflicts, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in October of 1991.  Mike was also a pilot with American Airlines for 30 years and loved every minute of his pilot career, retiring as a Captain in June 2007.  Mike spent his recent retirement years on Lake Texoma where he made great friends, great margaritas, and great memories with his family while he and Pam piloted Fly Buoy all over the lake.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, a true patriot, and great friend to so many.  Mike loved his family and friends fiercely and will be missed dearly by those who knew him and loved him.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Pam Lauffer of McKinney, Texas; son, Brad Lauffer of Centennial, Colorado; daughter, Mollee Lauffer Mingori and husband, Joe Mingori of Frisco, Texas; grandsons, Beau Lauffer and Dean Lauffer; granddaughters, Carson Mingori and Marlo Mingori, sister, Mari Holcomb and husband, John; brother-in-law, Tom Shields and wife, Pam; many loving nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ethel Lauffer; father-in-law, Martin Shields; mother-in-law, Eloise Shields; sisters, Marcia Lauffer Clark and Beverly O’Brien; brother-in-law, Roy O’Brien; and best friend, Walt “Buddy” Schneider.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Mike’s obituary page by clicking on the following link https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/michael-john-lauffer.  After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same location.  Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service with Military Honors.

Mike’s family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
