IN LOVING MEMORY

Michael Dewayne Calhoun

Oct 06 1948 - Dec 24 2023

Michael (Mike) Dewayne Calhoun passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24th in a hospital in Frisco, Texas. He was born in Kermit, Texas on October 6, 1948.

Michael graduated from Monahans High school in 1968. He was a member of the student council, and played four years of football. When he was a senior, he was the Powder Puff coach. After high school, he attended college at The University of North Texas. While going to college, he managed some apartments near campus. Several years later, Michael became an independent custom home builder in the North Texas area. He supervised and did some of the work himself in the construction of many beautiful homes around North Texas, as well as close to Oklahoma.

When Michael had time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Once he took a road trip by himself from Texas to Washington State. Then he caught a ferry boat ride to Alaska where he got off and rode his motorcycle until he made the long trip back to Texas. He was very adventurous and inquisitive. Michael never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone he encountered.

Some of his favorite things, besides riding his motorcycle, were listening to traditional country western music, old gospel music, and Elvis. He also enjoyed eating Mexican food, watching the Dallas Cowboys, The Texas Longhorns, and golf. Going to the movie theater to see the latest release was also a favorite pastime of Michael’s. A lot of the time you could find him tinkering around in the garage and he always changed the oil on his vehicles himself. He loved playing and “working” with his two grandsons. They loved helping him work on anything and everything.

He was preceded in death by his father E.W. “Cowboy” Calhoun, his mother Ruby Calhoun, and his older brother Ronnie Calhoun.

Micahel was beloved by his family and many friends. He is survived by his son Landon Calhoun, daughter-in-law Rachel, and his two precious grandsons Hendrix and Cash. They will miss their “Pa” dearly. He will be missed by his former wife, close friend, and companion Brenda Calhoun. He is survived by his Aunt Dee and Uncle Carey Boyer, his nephew Ronald Dewayne Calhoun, Ronald’s wife Angela, his nieces Kellie Calhoun and Laura Ronnfeldt, and several cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. He will be buried in Aubrey, Texas near his mother’s grave. Michael’s favorite bible verse was “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” Proverbs 3:5.

Family requests any donations to honor Michael be made to your favorite charity, or St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Research Hospital.
