M.H. “Pete” Gildon

M.H. “Pete” Gildon of Allen, Texas, formerly of Rockport, Texas, passed away June 12, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born on June 28, 1933 to C.E. and Doris Gildon in Miller County, Arkansas.  Pete was a 1950 graduate of Monahans High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from The University of Texas in Austin in 1955 and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Texas Tech University-Lubbock in 1965.  Pete served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 in Korea at the 38th parallel, and after his service began his career in municipal government. On September 4, 1959, he married Irene Preas at her family’s home in Odessa, Texas. Pete and Irene celebrated their 60th anniversary this past September. Beginning in Odessa as personnel director, he worked and served as a city manager in Bryan, Kermit, Hobbs, New Mexico, Tulsa, Oklahoma (Personnel Director), Portland, Port Lavaca, Sonora, and finally, Rockport where he and Irene then retired there in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of Allen, Texas; daughter, Kim Lehnhoff (Mark), of Lake Jackson, Texas; son, Matt Gildon (Lisa) of Plano, Texas; his grandchildren: granddaughter, Anna Lehnhoff of Austin, Texas; grandson, Jacob Lehnhoff of Lake Jackson, Texas; grandsons, Maxwell Gildon and Michael Gildon of Plano,  Texas; granddaughter, McKenna Gildon of Plano. 

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Gildon and sister-in-law, Joyce.

A private burial and inurnment of his ashes will be held at a later date at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockport, Texas.
